About Us

The Slate Shed at Graig Wen provides Bed and Breakfast accommodation in an exceptional location in Snowdonia National Park near Dolgellau and Barmouth. The Slate Shed B & B directly overlooks the beautiful Mawddach Estuary, serving up breathtaking views and big breakfasts in style. The B & B adjoins our small award-winning campsite with yurts and self-catering cottages at Graig Wen.

We are proud to have been recommended in national media including Country Living, The Telegraph and The Independent - read about us in The Guardian here.

Built in 1868 with thick stone walls and massive timber beams, the building was used by quarrymen to split rock into Wales' famous roof slates. The building is full of character and has been refurbished with a mix of custom made furniture, modern design classics, traditional Welsh materials and contemporary en suite facilities. But it's the views over the Mawddach Estuary and mountains that steal the show: watch the tide come in over breakfast, see the sun set over a drink on the terrace.

Follow Graig Wen on Facebook where you can see more photographs or check the blog for news.

Over the winter months of November, December and January we are often not open for B & B but there is self-catering accomodation here on site at Graig Wen which is available for short breaks of 2 nights or more.

When we moved to Graig Wen in September 2007, we didn't know a soul round here. Now we have the pleasure of working and playing with all kinds of local people who we can count on through thick and thin. You just never know when you're going to need a tray of eggs, a tractor or an extra pair of hands in our business. That's just one of the reasons we use as many local food producers, crafts people, suppliers and givers of good advice as we can. By supporting us you are supporting our local economy which mostly relies on visitors and the odd sheep to survive.

As well as local people, we rely on our family, friends, volunteers and regular customers who all contribute to our sense of community here. We aim to extend the same warm welcome to our guests as we have found here in Wales.

We are passionate about sharing and protecting our special surroundings - you can read our environmental statement here.

We do our best to ensure the comfort of all our guests and feel strongly that this beautiful environment should be accessible to people with different abilities.

You can download our access statement here, and we will be pleased to advise you both on our own accommodation and local places to go and things to do. You can download more details about accessible places to visit, eat, travel facilities etc here.
